Our Assessment: This replica 1756 Long Land Pattern Brown Bess is a modern flintlock muzzleloading musket chambered in .75 caliber and classified as an ATF antique by ignition type. It follows the classic British military musket pattern with a 46″ barrel, arsenal-bright finish, full-length walnut stock, brass furniture, four ramrod pipes, and traditional flintlock ignition. The tapered front post sight and lack of a dedicated rear sight are consistent with the smoothbore military musket style, giving this piece strong 18th-century martial presentation suitable for display, reenactment, or black powder shooting.
Condition is Excellent overall, with the musket retaining about 97% of its original finish. The metal shows only light scratches with minor handling and operational wear, while the screw heads remain sharp and the markings are clear. The one-piece smooth walnut stock is also in Very Good to Excellent condition, showing light scratches and compression dents throughout but no chips or cracks. Overall, the musket presents as a clean, well-kept reproduction with strong visual appeal and only modest evidence of use.
The bore is bright and shiny with no erosion and only minor storage dust, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the musket is functional, with the hammer holding at both full and half cock, the flint sparking, and the touch hole clear, though it has not been test fired. As with any used black powder arm, a full cleaning and inspection are advisable before use. Overall, this is an attractive and well-preserved Brown Bess-style flintlock musket with excellent bore condition, sound mechanics, and strong historical styling, making it well suited for collectors, reenactors, or traditional muzzleloading enthusiasts.
