Sights / Optics: The sight is a metal bead fixed to the rib. The rib is checkered for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered walnut with a schnabel tip forend, straight grip, and straight comb. There is a thin crack behind the top tang. There are f few compressions and draglines. The most noticeable marks are on the belly. There are some scattered light handling marks. There are a few little scuffs that have thinned the finish. There are a couple of tiny marks through the finish. The checkering is strong. The fit is proud to the right lockplate and proud to the left side of the forend iron. The LOP measures 14 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the checkered wood butt. The butt has light handling wear. The drop at the comb is approximately 1 3/8? and at the heel is 2 1/4″. The cast is slightly off, almost neutral. The stocks rate in Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores. In my opinion, the bores rate 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The barrel, frame, and forend iron are serial matching. There are a few little marks on the barrel set under the forend. There is a bit of finish wear at about the front of the top chamber. There are a few light handling marks. The markings are clear. The screwheads are sharp. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a leather luggage case, snapcaps, two spare firing pins, and a proof certificate.

Our Assessment: Renato Telo is a manufacturer of double barrel shotguns and is based in Italy. They seem to be a well kept secret, with little information other than previous sales available online and exclusive U.S. sales and import deals with high end shotgun shops. One must wonder why their name is not as popular as some of their compartiots, the built quality is astounding and the beauty is astonishing. This is a sidelock 20 gauge over under that features a coin finish receiver that has been engraved by C.F. Cremini. The frame is adorned with scrollwork and each sideplate has a woodland game scene with game birds. The bottom of the receiver is decorated with a bust of a dog above the name “Teddy”, and the trigger guard has a blank oval for your initials for once it’s yours! The work is so well done it does not take much of imagination to think of oneself on a hunt in the presented game scenes, or conversely, the lifelike birds flying off the sideplates as one holds this work of art. The wood further enhances the beauty of this already stunning piece, the grain lines are prominent and the checkering is crisp. The form factor of a Schnable tip and English stock cannot be argued with either. The bluing is rich and the finishes all combine for a simply lovely over under that anyone would do well to add to their collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
