Our Assessment:  This Remington Rand/Ithaca 1911 is a very appealing WWII-era U.S. military .45 ACP pistol, built on a 1943 Remington Rand frame with an Ithaca Gun Co. slide and High Standard replacement barrel. During World War II, Remington Rand, Ithaca, Colt, Union Switch & Signal, and Singer all contributed to 1911A1 production for the U.S. war effort, and mixed-manufacturer examples such as this are commonly encountered as a result of arsenal rebuild programs. The “AA” rebuild marking indicates Augusta Arsenal refurbishment, while the “FJA” inspection mark is associated with Col. Frank J. Atwood’s ordnance inspection district. The U.S. Property marking, Parkerized arsenal refinish, wartime-style plastic grips, Risdon magazine, and High Standard barrel all give this pistol the honest character of a service arm that likely passed through military maintenance channels rather than remaining as an untouched factory-original collector piece.

This pistol rates in about Very Good-Fine condition, retaining approximately 98% of its arsenal-refinished Parkerized finish with scattered handling scuffs, scratches, and operational wear on the barrel and hood. The bore is bright with defined rifling and minor fouling in the grooves, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The mixed Coltwood and Keyes Fibre-style grip panels remain Fine, showing little wear with sharp checkering and no chips or cracks, and the refurbished Risdon 7-round magazine rates Excellent with light operational wear. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, the trigger is crisp, the thumb and grip safeties are present. While not a matching factory-original pistol, this is a strong WWII U.S. martial 1911 package with desirable maker markings, arsenal history, a strong bore, and classic .45 ACP service-pistol appeal.
