Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “Remington / RDH001554 / CAL. 30 Remington AR / MODEL R-15 Hunter”, “REMINGTON ARMS / ILION. NY / USA”, “SAFE FIRE”. The right side of the magazine well is marked “R15 XHR”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “CAL-30 REM 1-10”.
Barrel Length: 22” fluted pencil barrel.
Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights on this rifle. The upper receiver has a 6” picatinny rail for the mounting of optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture set on this rifle includes a 12” tube style forend with one sling stud, an A2 pistol grip and an A2 rifle stock with checkered buttplate, and storage in the butt. The length of pull is 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The furniture on this rifle shows notable scratches in the finish of the forend on the left hand and right hand sides. Overall the furniture is in Excellent condition.
Magazine quantity and condition: One Factory Remington Arms 10rd Steel magazine in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. The feed ramp is smooth and shiny. The muzzle crown is clean. There is a small patch of what appears to be stubborn fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: The rifle shows the two marks noted above and a few minor marks on the barrel. The markings are clear, the pins are un-marred, and the screw heads are sharp. The dust cover does not remain shut when it is closed on a closed bolt. Overall this rifle is in Very good + to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Remington XHR Hunter AR-15 is a rare and specialized hunting rifle designed for those who wanted the versatility of the AR platform paired with the power of a traditional hunting cartridge. This particular model features a 22″ fluted pencil barrel, which helps reduce weight while maintaining accuracy and heat dissipation. Chambered in .30 Remington AR, the rifle was intended to bridge the gap between standard AR-15 calibers like .223 Remington and the larger AR-10-based .308 Winchester. With A2 furniture, a tube-style forend, and a Realtree camo finish, this rifle was built for hunters who preferred a lightweight, familiar AR-style rifle with added stopping power for medium to large game.
The .30 Remington AR cartridge was introduced in 2008 as a way to bring .308 Win-like ballistics to the smaller AR-15 platform. It was based on the .450 Bushmaster case, modified to fit within the AR-15’s magazine well while providing significantly more energy than .223 Rem or 6.8 SPC. Capable of pushing a 125-150 grain bullet at speeds exceeding 2,500 fps, the .30 Rem AR was marketed as an ideal hunting round for deer, hogs, and similar-sized game. However, despite its promising ballistics, the cartridge failed to gain widespread adoption, largely due to limited ammunition availability and lack of support from major firearm manufacturers. As a result, rifles like the Remington XHR Hunter in .30 Remington AR are now uncommon and sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the concept of a hard-hitting AR-15 hunting rifle in a discontinued caliber.
