Our Assessment: The Remington XP-100 is a unique and innovative bolt-action pistol designed for precision shooting and hunting purposes. Chambered in the .221 Remington Fireball cartridge, it offers a blend of accuracy, power, and portability suitable for various applications. Introduced in the 1960s, the XP-100 was one of the earliest examples of a purpose-built bolt-action pistol. The .221 Fireball cartridge, derived from the .222 Remington, provided sufficient power for small to medium game hunting while offering reduced recoil and noise compared to larger calibers. One of the standout features of the XP-100 was its accuracy potential. The bolt-action design, combined with free-floating barrel and a crisp trigger, allowed for exceptional precision at extended ranges. Shooters could achieve impressive accuracy with carefully handloaded ammunition or factory-loaded match-grade cartridges. It was often used for varmint hunting, target shooting competitions, and plinking. Despite being discontinued by Remington in the early 2000s, the XP-100 remains a sought-after collector’s item and continues to be appreciated for its unique design and performance capabilities in the world of handgun shooting.
