Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with Remington’s 2-line warning & address, “260 REM.”, the “KR” date code, and a couple of proof marks. The right sight side of the barrel is marked with a series of proof marks. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “Remington / MODEL SEVEN”.
Barrel Length: 18 1/2″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch sight on a riser, screwed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is mounted with a one-piece Weaver base for optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered wood stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, brown rubber Remington buttpad, a checkered schnabel tipped forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 3/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with only a few light dings and compressions throughout. The checkering is well defined, and the stock’s finish is intact. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. The buttpad shows some light weathering on the top and on the toe. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with minor thinning of the finish at the muzzle and on the bolt knob, along with a few scratches and dings scattered throughout the metal surfaces, most notably on edges of the floorplate, and on the back of the firing pin housing. There are a few minor freckles of surface corrosion scattered about the barrel and receiver. The jeweling on the bolt is mostly vivid and bright, with some light operational wear on the bolt. The finish is largely intact, otherwise. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are lightly tooled, but retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Remington’s Model Seven was developed as a shorter, lighter sporting rifle based on the Model 700 family, giving hunters a compact bolt-action platform with familiar Remington handling and field utility. This 1997 example is chambered in .260 Remington (first year the .260 Remington was offered in this model), an efficient 6.5mm cartridge known for mild recoil, good ballistic performance, and usefulness on deer-sized game, predators, and target shooting. This rifle features an 18 1/2″ barrel, factory iron sights, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, checkered wood stock with schnabel-tipped forend, and a one-piece Weaver scope base already installed. The compact Model Seven configuration, handy barrel length, factory sights, optic-ready receiver, and desirable .260 Remington chambering should appeal to hunters and Remington collectors looking for a lightweight woods rifle or an easy-carrying field rifle with practical versatility.
This rifle rates in Very Good overall condition, retaining about 90% of its original blued finish. The wood stock rates in Very Good condition, showing only a few light dings and compressions, with well-defined checkering, intact finish, tight fit to the barreled action, and no chips or cracks; the buttpad shows light weathering at the top and toe. The metal shows light wear, including thinning at the muzzle and bolt knob, scattered scratches and dings most notably on the floorplate edges and firing pin housing, and a few small freckles of surface corrosion on the barrel and receiver. The bolt jeweling remains mostly vivid and bright with light operational wear, the markings are clear and legible, the screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable, and the action and safety function correctly.
