Our Assessment: Remington’s Model 673 Guide Gun was introduced in the early 2000s as a modern homage to Remington’s earlier Model 600 and 660 carbines, retaining the distinctive vent-rib barrel styling while offering updated Model 700-family handling and construction. This 2003 example is chambered in .308 Winchester, one of the most popular and versatile centerfire rifle cartridges, valued for its broad ammunition availability, manageable recoil, and proven performance for hunting, field use, and target shooting. This rifle features a 22″ vent-rib barrel, blade front sight with white square aiming reference, receiver-mounted Williams aperture peep sight, drilled and tapped receiver for optics, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, and a checkered laminate wood stock with cheekpiece. The short-lived Model 673 production, distinctive Guide Gun styling, excellent iron sight setup, and practical .308 chambering should appeal to Remington collectors and hunters looking for a handy, durable field rifle.

This rifle rates in Excellent overall condition, retaining about 99% of its original blued finish with only the most minor handling wear noted. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10 in this writer’s opinion. The laminate stock also rates in Excellent condition, showing only a couple minor compressions while retaining well-defined checkering, an intact finish, tight fit to the barreled action, and no chips or cracks. The bluing remains deep, dark, and intact throughout, the bolt jeweling is vivid and bright, the markings are clear and legible, and the screw heads are sharp. The original vent-rib rear sight has been removed and the dovetail filled, while the installed Williams aperture sight gives the rifle a practical and fast sighting arrangement. The action and safety function correctly, making this a strong, clean example of Remington’s distinctive 673 Guide Gun.
