The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x scope, with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light handling wear. Overall, the scope rates in Fine condition. The scope is mounted on a one-piece Weaver base, and sits in 1″ cantilever rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, press-checkered, wood stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb, serrated plastic Remington buttplate, a press-checkered forend, and sling rings front and rear. There is a leather sling attached to the stock. The LOP measures 13 7/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. This stock shows evidence of a refinish, as there is evidence of sanding. The stock’s refinish is largely intact, however, there are a couple areas around the wrist with thin finish. There are a few light compressions and dings throughout. The press-checkering is mostly well defined, though some of the checkering on the wrist has been sanded down pretty heavily. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, with only a few minor superficial imperfections scattered throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are tooled, but retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope and sling as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Remington Model 600 was introduced in 1964 as a compact, fast-handling bolt action built around a short action and distinctive vent rib barrel. With its dog-leg bolt handle, light weight, and carbine-length barrel, the 600 quickly earned a reputation as an ideal woods rifle and mountain companion. Chambered in 6mm Remington, a high-velocity cartridge developed from the .257 Roberts case and long respected for its flat trajectory and mild recoil, this configuration offers excellent versatility for varmints and medium-sized game alike.
This December 1965 example retains approximately 98 percent of its original blued finish, showing only light handling marks and minor superficial imperfections. The 18 1/2 inch vent rib barrel remains sharp and attractive, and the bore is bright with strong rifling, rating 9.5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The press-checkered walnut stock shows evidence of a refinish, with some thinning around the wrist and softened checkering in that area, yet it remains structurally sound with tight fit to the action and no cracks. The Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x scope complements the rifle well and presents in fine condition with clear glass. The action and safety function correctly. Overall, this is a clean and appealing mid-1960s Model 600 in a desirable chambering, combining classic styling with practical field performance.
