Our Assessment: Introduced in 1964, the Remington Model 600 was a bold departure from traditional sporting rifle design, featuring a compact action, dog-leg bolt handle, and distinctive ventilated rib barrel. Produced for only a few years, the 600 has developed a loyal following among collectors and hunters who appreciate its light weight and quick handling characteristics. Chambered here in .223 Remington, a cartridge introduced in the early 1960s and quickly embraced for its flat trajectory and mild recoil, this rifle represents a classic pairing of compact rifle and efficient small-caliber performance. With its 18 1/2 inch barrel and vent rib, this 1967-dated example captures the distinctive profile that defines the Model 600 series.

This rifle retains approximately 99 percent of its original blue finish, showing only minor handling and operational marks, with very slight freckling beginning on the top of the bolt handle. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The press-checkered walnut stock presents in Fine condition with strong checkering, intact finish, and solid fit to the action. The action and safety function correctly. Overall, this is a well-preserved late-production Model 600 that exemplifies the model’s unique design and enduring appeal.
