Our Assessment:   The Remington Model 4-S, a testament to early 20th-century American craftsmanship, is a single-shot, rolling-block rifle that became a favorite among hunters and marksmen. The rifles were so successful that smaller framed variants were produced for sporting purposes. This is a Military Model which is built on the No. 4 frame. It was originally called the Boy Scout but the company thought it belittled the gun so they changed the name to Military Model. This opened the door for sales to Military Academies who would use it for training and target shooting. This one has survived well, Its sturdy construction and simple, yet reliable rolling-block action contributed to its popularity, especially in rural areas where a dependable firearm was essential.

This rifle is not just a practical tool but also a piece of history. Its design reflects the transition from the more cumbersome black powder rifles to more modern smokeless powder firearms. The Model 4 was often the rifle of choice for young shooters learning marksmanship, as well as for seasoned hunters looking for a reliable firearm for small game. Its walnut stock and steel components exhibit the quality and durability that Remington is known for. Owning a Remington Model 4 is like holding a piece of the American frontier, embodying the spirit of independence and self-reliance that defined the era.  Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – C.M.
