Our Assessment: The Model 29 occupies a brief but revealing period in Remington’s shotgun development. It carried forward the bottom-ejecting arrangement of John Pedersen’s Model 10, with improvements credited to C. C. Loomis, while Remington prepared the side-ejecting Model 31. The Model 29-T brought that established action to the trap field. Its barrel’s “PZ” code dates the barrel to June 1931, the same year the Model 31 entered the company’s lineup. Those overlapping dates help explain the 29’s short life: Remington was maintaining an existing family of sporting guns while introducing its next pump action. The 29-T preserves the specialized target-shooting side of that transition, complete with a solid-sided receiver whose loading and ejection opening is underneath.

Remington’s 1931 catalog shows how deliberately the trap version was equipped. The ventilated rib was machined with the barrel from a single piece of steel, a construction the company emphasized because it avoided a separate rib working loose. The catalog paired that rib with a long forend and finely checkered furniture, and offered different stock dimensions to suit individual shooters. This example’s ventilated rib, extended forend, checkered grip, and 30-inch Full-choke barrel follow that target-gun approach. The same catalog also offered the more modestly priced Model 29S with a matted barrel surface, demonstrating that Remington was serving different levels of commitment within the trapshooting market. The 29-T gives a precise view of what the company put into its dedicated trap gun before the Model 31 became its better-known pump shotgun.
