Our Assessment: The Remington 1911 R1 Tactical Double Stack is a modern evolution of the classic 1911 platform, combining John Browning’s enduring single action design with increased capacity and contemporary features. Built to maintain the familiar ergonomics and trigger characteristics of the traditional 1911, this variant incorporates a double stack magazine, significantly increasing capacity while retaining the slim profile and controls that define the platform. Chambered in .45 ACP, a cartridge introduced in 1905 and long regarded for its consistent performance, the pistol continues the legacy of one of the most influential handgun designs in history while adapting it for modern use. This example retains approximately 99 percent of its original finish, with minimal to no visible handling wear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9 out of 10, showing light fouling. The Micarta grip panels remain in Excellent condition, with no structural issues and well-defined texturing. The pistol includes three 15 round factory magazines in Excellent condition, along with its original box and lock, presenting as a complete and well maintained package. Markings are clear and well defined, with sharp screw heads and unmarred pins, and the action functions correctly.
The double stack configuration enhances the practical capability of the 1911 platform by increasing capacity while maintaining its proven single action trigger system. The 5 inch barrel and fixed sight system provide a stable and accurate shooting platform, while the modern construction ensures durability. This example stands as a well preserved and updated interpretation of the classic 1911 design, combining traditional operation with increased capacity and strong overall condition. -R.E.
