Our Assessment: The WASR 10/63 UF is an intriguing entry in the world of AK-pattern rifles, offering a unique blend of history and modern practicality. Manufactured in Romania by Cugir Arms Factory, these rifles were initially designed for export to meet the demands of shooters and collectors outside Romania. The “10/63” designation is a nod to the year 1963, when the original military design was adapted for the civilian market. This model comes with an underfolding stock, making it distinctively compact and highly transportable, a feature that many find invaluable for various applications from hunting to sport shooting.
The WASR 10/63 UF retains many of the characteristics that make AK-47s beloved: reliability, durability, and simplicity of design. It is chambered in the widely used 7.62×39mm cartridge, ensuring both availability of ammunition and effective performance. The rifle’s receiver is constructed from stamped steel, providing a balance between durability and weight. While it may lack some of the refined features found in more expensive AK variants, its robustness and functional reliability more than make up for it. A chrome-lined barrel not only enhances durability but also eases the burden of maintenance, a boon for those who expect to put the rifle through its paces.
In summary, the WASR 10/63 UF offers an excellent entry point into the realm of AK-pattern firearms, while also serving as a piece of Cold War history given its lineage. The underfolding stock lends itself to a compact profile, making it a versatile option for those in need of a more transportable firearm. Whether you’re an enthusiast of historical firearms, a practical shooter, or someone simply looking for a reliable and rugged rifle, the WASR 10/63 UF captures these attributes in a package that is as intriguing as it is functional.
