Markings: Left side of the trunnion is marked with the factory 66 logo and “84S-1 323000“ The left side of the receiver is marked “5.56×45 / MADE IN CHINA / NORINCO / CSI L.A CA USA”. The left side of the dust cover is marked “3000”. Right side of the receiver is marked “S” and “F” near the safety lever. The bolt and bolt carrier are marked “3000”. The carrier spring is marked “3000”.
Barrel Length: 16.25” threaded. 17.25” with a muzzle device.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable hooded pin. The rear sight is a “U” tangent notch leaf sight marked from “1 – 8” and “D” for the battle position.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a three piece wood set with a straight comb, vented hand guard, wooden semi pistol grip, and metal underfolder. There is light handling wear. There are light scratches and compressions in the wood. There are deep compression marks on the lower forend. The LOP measures 12.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is fouling in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear. There are light scratches and thinning which is common with Norinco imports. There is light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Norinco 84S-1 is a pre-ban Chinese AK-pattern rifle chambered in 5.56x45mm, representing a less common variant of the Kalashnikov system produced prior to the 1989 import restrictions. Manufactured by Factory 66 and imported by CSI of Los Angeles, these rifles adapted the traditional AKM pattern to Western intermediate cartridges while retaining the long stroke gas piston system and rugged reliability of the original design. The 84S series is notable for its compatibility with proprietary magazines and its distinctive place among collectible pre-ban Chinese imports. Chambered in 5.56x45mm, the cartridge adopted by NATO in the 1960s, the platform offers lighter recoil and flatter trajectory compared to 7.62×39 variants.
This example retains about 98 percent of its original blued finish with light handling wear, including minor scratches and thinning typical of Norinco imports. The three-piece wood furniture set with underfolding stock shows moderate handling wear with scratches and compression marks, including deeper impressions on the lower handguard, but remains structurally sound, rating in Fine condition overall. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and light fouling present, rating 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion.
