Our Assessment: Dubbed the “Evil Assault Pistol” by the US government, the Tec-9 finds its historical origins in the heart of Sweden. The famous George Kellgren, responsible for KelTec, Interdynamic, and Intratec designed the iconic look and configuration of the full auto open bolt MP9. To increase sales the full auto function was removed and then sold to the public in the United States. Thus Interdynamic of America Inc was born along with the KG-9 and every other variant that would be developed up to the Tec-9. These variants would be created throughout the years in an attempt to keep the sale of these firearms legal in the face of laws being passed against them in light of their notoriety in organized crime, gangs, and shootings. In the end the government deemed this gun design still far too “violent” with the threaded barrel, pistol grip, and barrel shroud and the ban on these assault pistols would be passed in 1994. After the Cleveland School massacre, the TEC-9 was added to California’s list of banned weapons. Garcia was resilient though and rebranded and renamed the firearm the Tec-DC9. The “DC” stood for “Designated for California”. In 1994, the manufacture of the Tec-9 was officially banned with the assault weapons ban. Still, the company did not give up. A solid example of an icon of late 80’s TV and movies, and even a few more recent video games, this Tec-DC9 or TEC-9 could be your new favorite range toy. Although it shows some wear, it’s in original factory configuration with its distinct barrel shroud and threaded barrel. This molded polymer pistol is a mixture of stamped and milled steel parts and the simple design makes it easy to repair and modify. Don’t miss out on the scariest pistol on the market!
