Our Assessment: The Intratec Tec-9 pistol is a semi-automatic handgun that gained significant attention due to its controversial history. Manufactured by Intratec in the 1980s and 1990s, the Tec-9 became infamous for its association with crime and its involvement in various high-profile shootings.

The Tec-9 is a compact, lightweight pistol chambered in 9mm. It features a large-capacity magazine, typically holding 20 or 32 rounds, which contributed to its notoriety as a “high-capacity” firearm. The pistol’s design included a threaded barrel that allowed for the attachment of accessories such as suppressors or muzzle brakes.

The controversial history of the Tec-9 stems from its frequent use in criminal activities. The firearm gained popularity among some gang members and criminals due to its high magazine capacity and relatively affordable price. Its appearance in numerous crime reports and its association with street violence and drug-related activities led to widespread negative perception and calls for stricter gun control measures.

The Tec-9’s notoriety reached its peak in the early 1990s when it was involved in several high-profile shootings, including the 101 California Street shooting in San Francisco in 1993. These incidents brought national attention to the issue of gun violence and fueled the debate on gun control legislation.

As a result of the negative publicity and concerns surrounding the firearm’s use in criminal activities, the Tec-9 became subject to various legal restrictions. In 1994, the U.S. Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which included specific provisions targeting the Tec-9 and similar firearms. The ban prohibited the manufacture and sale of new Tec-9 pistols with certain features, such as threaded barrels and high-capacity magazines.

It is hard to find a Pre Assault Weapon Ban in this Excellent of condition.  It comes with two increasingly rare magazines and its original iconic barrel shroud extension.  Please see photos and good luck on your bid!
