Our Assessment: The FN FAL, often referred to as the “right arm of the free world,” is one of the most widely adopted battle rifle designs of the 20th century, developed by Fabrique Nationale in Belgium and produced under license across numerous countries. The Argentine F.M.A.P. produced rifles are among the more sought-after variants, manufactured at the Rosario factory using licensed tooling and adhering closely to original FN specifications. The Lightweight Semi-Auto Rifle LSR designation reflects a civilian-import configuration of the FAL platform prior to the 1989 import restrictions, making this a pre-ban example. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, a cartridge introduced in the 1950s and known for its range and power, the FAL platform delivers reliable performance through its adjustable short-stroke gas piston system. This example presents in excellent overall condition, retaining approximately 98 percent of its original black enamel finish with only light handling marks and minor chips visible. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only faint fouling present, supporting strong performance potential. The three-piece black polymer furniture set remains in very good plus condition, showing light wear while maintaining structural integrity. The rifle features the classic FAL sighting system, with an adjustable front post protected by ears and a two-position aperture rear sight. The included matching barrel adds to the rifle’s cohesive assembly, while the included magazines, sling, cleaning kit, and tools contribute to a complete and well-equipped package.
The Argentine FAL stands as a faithful representation of one of the most iconic battle rifle designs of the modern era, combining proven engineering with licensed production quality. Its pre-ban status, strong condition, and included accessories enhance its overall appeal as a collectible and functional example of the FAL system. With its robust construction and historical significance, it remains a notable piece within the lineage of Cold War-era service rifles. -R.E.
