Our Assessment: The Pre-Ban Argentine F.M.A.P. FAL is a semi-automatic variant of the FN FAL (Fusil Automatique Léger), one of the most widely recognized and historically significant battle rifles of the 20th century. “F.M.A.P.” stands for Fábrica Militar de Armas Portátiles, the Argentine state arms manufacturer responsible for producing licensed copies of the FN FAL under the designation FAL Model 50.00. These rifles were built to very high standards using FN’s original blueprints, making them nearly identical to the Belgian-made versions. The F.M.A.P. FAL was imported into the U.S. during the pre-ban period, making it a highly sought-after rifle among collectors and enthusiasts due to its build quality and pre-ban status, meaning it was imported before stricter gun regulations were enacted in the early 1990s. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Winchester), the Argentine FAL is a versatile and powerful rifle suitable for various roles, including combat, sport shooting, and target practice. It features a gas-operated, short-stroke piston system, known for its reliability in adverse conditions. This system is adjustable, allowing the shooter to fine-tune the rifle for different types of ammunition or specific environments. The FAL’s legendary reliability, combined with its ease of maintenance, made it the main battle rifle for many countries, including Argentina.
Overall, the Pre-Ban Argentine F.M.A.P. FAL is prized for its authenticity, build quality, and historical significance. It offers the durability and reliability of the FAL platform, making it a favorite among both collectors and practical shooters who appreciate its performance and heritage. Its pre-ban status further enhances its value in the U.S. market. -R.E.
