The stock has some scattered little nicks and marks through the finish. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has some scattered marks around heel and toe with some heavier nicks on the toe. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is minor fouling down the length and a couple minor spots of frosting a few inches from the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10 for C&R.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light-mild operation wear. There is some finish loss on the bolt, extractor, and bottom metal.  There is thinning on the leading edges, muzzle, and front sight hood.   There is a deep scratch on the bottom of the trigger guard that was finished over with some kind of black paint.  The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years; reliable, robust, and accurate, it is one of the benchmarks by which all bolt action rifles are measured. It has more than earned its nickname of “The Riflemans Rifle”, a true icon. This a lovely Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight made in 1958. The rifle is chambered in .243 Winchester, making it ideal for hunting most game up to deer. In addition to the shorter barrel, it has an alloy trigger guard/floorplate assembly and an alloy buttplate for weight savings. The rifle is in about Very Good condition with minor wear typical of a deer rifle that has seen limited time in the field. The bore is nice and the mechanics are strong. Don’t miss out on this vintage classic. – L.S.
