Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a hooded ramp integral to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed and the dovetail plugged. The left side of the receiver is drilled and tapped for a peep sight. There is a Lyman receiver peep sight installed on this rifle. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth walnut, capped forend, semi pistol grip, straight comb, and checkered steel buttplate. The LOP is 13 1/4″ from trigger to buttplate. This stock has been refinished. There are scratches and light compression dents scattered throughout. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There are a few light specks of corrosion. There is some copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original finish. There is handling and operational wear. There are scratches and corrosion freckles throughout. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The pre-64 Winchester Model 64 is a refined sporting variation of the Model 94 action, designed with a longer barrel, pistol-grip stock, and partial-length magazine for improved balance and handling. This 1951 example is chambered in .32 Winchester Special and features a 24″ barrel, 2/3-length tubular magazine, hooded front sight, and a Lyman receiver peep sight. Its pre-64 manufacture and classic hunting configuration give it strong appeal as a vintage Winchester sporting rifle.

Introduced in the early 1930s, the Model 64 was intended as a more polished and sporting-oriented alternative to the standard Model 94 carbine. Its longer barrel, pistol-grip stock, and reduced-length magazine gave it a distinctive profile and made it especially well suited for deliberate hunting use. The .32 Winchester Special chambering remained popular with deer hunters who appreciated its larger bore and traditional lever-action performance, and pre-64 examples continue to attract Winchester collectors.

This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish, with light handling and operational wear, scattered scratches, and corrosion freckling. The refinished walnut stock remains in Very Good condition with only light scratches and compression dents and no chips or cracks. The bright bore has sharp rifling and rates 8/10 due to a few light corrosion specks and some copper fouling, while the action functions correctly and the trigger pull is crisp. Overall, this is a Very Good pre-64 Model 64 with desirable .32 Winchester Special chambering and a useful Lyman receiver sight.
