Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable lock-bar aperture sight set between two protective wings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal butt plate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood has been lightly sanded and re-finished. The wood shows compressions, nicks, scratches, and a few very minor chips scattered throughout. There are no cracks. The butt plate has been refinished and shows some rub wear under the refinish. There is some beaded finish scattered throughout the stock. The right flank of the stock shows what might appear to be a repair however there is no evidence of a repair inside the storage compartment. The door spring is strong and functions correctly. Overall the stock set is in Good+-Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is well defined-sharp. There is no visible pitting, erosion, or rust in the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 0+ and a throat erosion of 1+. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very minor rub wear. The gas lock shows some finish loss as does the bayonet lug. The trigger guard and gas tube have a few minor scuffs. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good+ near Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in late 1954 to early 1955 and is fitted with an original Springfield Armory barrel dated November 1954. The M1 Garand remains one of the most important military firearms ever produced, serving as the standard U.S. service rifle through the latter stages of World War II and the Korean War. General George S. Patton famously described the Garand as, “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.” This particular rifle was sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2005 as a Correct Grade rifle, one of the most desirable grades ever offered by the CMP. To qualify as Correct Grade, a rifle was required to retain the proper parts and configuration appropriate for its manufacturer and production period, exhibiting a high degree of originality while remaining in excellent mechanical condition. This example exemplifies that standard, retaining its correct late-production Springfield configuration and featuring an exceptional bore with a muzzle reading of 0+ and a throat erosion reading of just 1+, measurements that are becoming increasingly rare.
The rifle includes all of its original CMP paperwork documenting its sale as a Correct Grade rifle in 2005, further enhancing its collectability and provenance. Correct Grade rifles represented some of the finest examples released through the CMP program and have become increasingly difficult to locate as those rifles disappear into private collections. Combining its desirable post-Korean War production date, matching November 1954 barrel, exceptional bore condition, documented CMP Correct Grade status, and complete accompanying paperwork, this is a truly outstanding example of America’s most iconic battle rifle.
