Sights / Optics: For the front sight: a globe style sight hood is dovetailed to the barrel. Insertable sights are present, please see photos for the selection of front sights inserts. The rear sight is a rear tang mounted Vernier Diottra “Goodwin Stye” Creedmor sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered semi-fancy walnut with german silver forecap and case colored metal butt plate. The butt plate shows no wear and has engravings on the heel tang and face of the plate. The wood shows minimal handling and storage marks. A small scratch is present on the right forend, near the rear most point of checkering. The checkering is well defined. There are no cracks or chips. The LOP measures 14” and 13.25” from the faces of the triggers to the back of the butt plate. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light discoloration of the grooves at the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion and for the age, this bore rates a 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows small thin scratches from handling and storage. The most notable is that the barrel has taken a light patina on the flats of the barrel, the leading edges are still dark. The screw heads are sharp. The markings and engravings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine – Fine Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rear set trigger can be set before or after cocking. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included with this rifle is a cardboard serial matching shipping box with styrofoam inserts. Also present is a safety and load data guide, VHS tape, Pedersoli flyer for the rifle and paperwork showing the provenance of ownership from the previous owner. A letter from the distributor is included that speaks to a few of the more detailed features of the rifle.
Our Assessment: Sharps rifles are a series of large-bore, single-shot, falling-block, breech-loading rifles, beginning with a design by Christian Sharps in 1848, and ceasing production in 1881. They were renowned for long-range accuracy. By 1874 the rifle was available in a variety of calibers, and it was one of the few designs successfully to be adapted to metallic cartridge use. The Sharps rifles became icons of the American Old West due to their appearances in many Western-genre films like Quigley Down Under, and many books. As a result, several rifle companies offer reproductions of the Sharps rifle. This is a centerfire Model 1874 from Pedersoli, manufactured in Italy. This rifle is in great condition and seems to have been in the box or on display more than it was ever on the range. The forend nose cap is made of German silver and the stock is semi-fancy walnut which is not standard and is only for special models. The engravings and 24k gold plated scenes of a moose on the left side of the receiver and two buffalo with another charging buffalo charging through a wooden scene on the right side were crafted by Bogetta Giovanelli who still engraves today and is located near Brescia, Italy.
