Our Assessment: This Pedersoli 1857 Württembergischen Rifle is a well-made modern percussion muzzleloading rifle manufactured in 1999 and chambered in .54 caliber. Patterned after a European military rifle, it features a 39″ barrel, three-band walnut stock, arsenal-bright metal, color-case lock components, steel buttplate, and military-style sights with a blade front sight integral to the front barrel band and a rotating adjustable square-notch rear sight. The long barrel, full-length stock, and bright finish give it a strong mid-19th-century martial presentation, while Pedersoli manufacture adds appeal for collectors and black powder shooters who value quality modern reproductions.
Condition is Excellent overall, with the rifle retaining about 95% of its original finish. The metal shows light scratches and scattered corrosion freckles, most notably on the trigger guard, but the markings remain clear and the screw heads are sharp. The one-piece smooth walnut stock is also in Excellent condition, showing only light handling wear with scattered light scratches and compression dents, and no chips or cracks. Overall, the rifle presents as a lightly used and well-preserved muzzleloader with only minor cosmetic storage and handling wear.
The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, with only light superficial corrosion near the muzzle, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the rifle is functional, with the hammer holding at both full and half cock, a free nipple, and a clear firing channel, though it has not been test fired. As with any used black powder arm, a thorough cleaning and inspection are advisable before use. Overall, this is a clean and attractive Pedersoli 1857 Württembergischen Rifle with excellent bore condition, strong mechanics, and high remaining finish, making it well suited for black powder shooting, historical arms collecting, or military muzzleloader display.
