Our Assessment: This Parker Hale Whitworth is a modern percussion muzzleloading rifle chambered in .45 caliber and patterned after the famous Whitworth-style long-range rifle. It features a 36″ barrel, three-band configuration, checkered walnut stock, capped forend, smooth brass buttplate, and military-style percussion lock arrangement. The hooded pinhead front sight and adjustable ladder rear sight give it a more refined sighting setup than a standard musket pattern, making it especially appealing to black powder target shooters and collectors of precision-oriented muzzleloading arms.
Condition is Excellent overall, with the rifle retaining about 95% of its original blued finish. The metal shows only light scratches scattered throughout, most notably on the barrel bands and top of the barrel, while the screw heads remain sharp and the markings are clear. The one-piece checkered walnut stock is also in Excellent condition, showing only light scratches and compression dents with no chips or cracks. Overall, the rifle presents as a clean, well-kept example with strong visual appeal and only minor handling wear.
The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, with only fouling and storage dust present, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the rifle is functional, with the hammer holding at both full and half cock, a free nipple, and a clear firing channel, though it has not been test fired. As with any used black powder arm, a full cleaning and inspection are advisable before use. Overall, this is an attractive and desirable Parker Hale Whitworth-style percussion rifle with excellent stock condition, strong bore quality, functional mechanics, and notable appeal for black powder target shooting, historical arms collecting, or display.
