Our Assessment: The Palmetto State Armory PSAK-74. Now, if you’re in the market for an AK, this is definitely one you’re gonna want to consider. First off, the PSAK-74 is chambered in the 5.45x39mm cartridge, which was originally developed by the Soviets in the 1970s as a replacement for the 7.62x39mm round. It’s a relatively uncommon cartridge here in the US, but it’s gained popularity among AK enthusiasts due to its lower recoil and superior accuracy over the 7.62x39mm.
Now let’s talk about the rifle itself. The PSAK-74 features a 16-inch chrome moly barrel with a 1:8 twist rate, which is great for stabilizing. The receiver is made from forged 4140 steel and is finished with a black nitride coating for maximum durability. The furniture is a classic AK style with a polymer stock and handguard, and it also comes with a standard AK sight system.
But what really sets the PSAK-74 apart from other AKs on the market is the attention to detail that Palmetto State Armory puts into these rifles. They use high-quality parts, including a machined billet steel bolt carrier group, and perform extensive quality control checks to ensure that each rifle functions flawlessly.
Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable and accurate AK chambered in the 5.45x39mm cartridge, the Palmetto State Armory PSAK-74 is definitely worth checking out.
