Our Assessment: The Olympic Arms OA-93 is one of the most distinctive and unconventional AR-pattern pistols produced during the modern sporting rifle era. Unlike traditional AR-pattern firearms, the OA-93 utilized a unique recoil system mounted above the barrel that eliminated the need for a receiver extension and buffer tube. This innovative arrangement resulted in a compact and highly recognizable firearm that stood apart from conventional AR pistols. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, a cartridge with a long military history and reputation for dependable performance, the OA-93 combined substantial power with an unusually compact footprint. This example remains in good plus overall condition, retaining approximately 92% of its original finish with visible handling wear, scattered scratches, and localized oxidation on the barrel and gas block. The bore remains strong, showing bright surfaces and sharp rifling with only minor copper fouling present, supporting its 9 out of 10 rating. The tubular aluminum handguard exhibits the majority of the cosmetic wear, while the polymer grip remains structurally sound. The pistol includes two magazines and accompanying paperwork. Of note, the magazines require additional effort to seat properly in the magazine well, a condition prospective owners should carefully consider.
Altogether, this Olympic Arms OA-93 represents an increasingly uncommon example of a unique approach to AR-pattern pistol design. Its compact 9-inch barrel, 7.62x39mm chambering, bufferless operating arrangement, and distinctive profile make it one of the more unusual AR-derived firearms encountered on today’s market. As interest in niche and historically significant AR-pattern variants continues to grow, the OA-93 remains a noteworthy example of Olympic Arms’ innovative engineering efforts. -R.E.
