Action Type: Single & Double-Action Revolver with 7-Round Side-Loaded Cylinder

Markings:  All serialized parts match. The left side of the frame is marked “BREVET / NAGANT / 3100” and the Norwegian inspection officers Jacob Maximilian Gran Paaske (stamped MP). There are more liege factory stamping throughout.

Barrel Length: 4.5”

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a partridge blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a V-notch integral to the rear end of the top-strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grip panels are four piece checkered wood. There is a lanyard ring on the buttstrap. There is very light wear. There are scratches and compression marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip panels are in about Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with defined rifling. There is light erosion in the bore. There is faint pitting in the bore. There are fouling streaks down the length of the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates a 7 out of 10.

Overall Condition: The revolver retains about 85% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows hanlding and storage wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. There is thinning on the leading edges and high contact places. There is freckling throughout. There are a few nicks throughout the barrel. The markings are clear. The screw heads are lightly tooled with serviceable slots. Overall, the revolver is in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks have little play on each chamber. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: This revolver comes with a leather holster.  

Our Assessment: The Norwegian Nagant M1893 is a distinctive military revolver chambered in 7.5mm Nagant and produced by Fabrique d’Armes Émile et Léon Nagant of Belgium for Norwegian service. Based on the Nagant gas-seal revolver design, the M1893 features a unique 7-shot cylinder, double-action/single-action operation, and a side-loading cylinder configuration. This 1896 antique example retains matching serialized components, Norwegian inspection markings, Liege proofs, a 4.5” barrel, partridge blade front sight, V-notch rear sight, blued finish, four-piece checkered wood grips, lanyard ring, and leather holster.

This revolver is in Good condition overall, retaining about 85% of its original blued finish with handling and storage wear, scratches, thinning, leading-edge wear, high-contact wear, freckling, and a few barrel nicks. The four-piece checkered wood grips rate in Good condition, showing scratches and compression marks, but no chips or cracks, with well-defined checkering. The bore is bright with defined rifling, light erosion, faint pitting, and fouling streaks, rating 7 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, the cylinder locks with little play on each chamber, all serialized parts match, and the markings are clear. This Norwegian Nagant should appeal to collectors of antique military revolvers, Scandinavian service arms, Nagant-pattern handguns, and early European revolvers with documented historical markings.
