Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is worn. There is heavy erosion and moderate spots of  pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 5.5/10.

Many military and C&R eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is light thinning along with scratches, nicks, and brown patina throughout. The action has light wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tooled. The markings are mostly clear with some being blurry. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition. The bayonet is in good condition with some moderate wear and patina to the blade and scabbard.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: 1894 Knife bayonet, original leather sling.

Our Assessment: This Norwegian M1894 Lang-Krag rifle was manufactured at the Kongsberg Arsenal in 1906 and represents the long rifle configuration of Norway’s adoption of the Krag-Jørgensen system. The Krag action is distinctive for its smooth, side-loading magazine design, allowing cartridges to be loaded without opening the bolt and contributing to its reputation for fluid operation. The long 30 inch barrel and tangent rear sight graduated to extended distances reflect the infantry doctrine of the period, emphasizing precision at range. The rifle stands as a continuation of Scandinavian arms development at the turn of the 20th century, following the success of the earlier Danish and American Krag variants. This rifle is chambered in 6.5x55mm, the Scandinavian service cartridge adopted in the 1890s and widely respected for its flat trajectory, mild recoil, and excellent accuracy. The bore is gray with worn rifling and shows heavy erosion along with moderate pitting, earning a rating of 5.5 out of 10. The rifle retains approximately 90 percent of its refinished metal surface with light thinning, scratches, and areas of brown patina visible throughout. The two-piece stock shows heavy handling wear including dents and small chips but remains structurally sound, placing it in Very Good condition overall as refinished.

This rifle includes a Model 1894 knife bayonet and original leather sling, both showing moderate wear consistent with service use. The bolt is not matched to the receiver and the screw heads range from sharp to lightly tooled. The markings remain mostly clear despite some softening. Overall, this 1906 Kongsberg-produced Lang-Krag stands as a representative example of a Norwegian service rifle, combining the unique Krag action with visible service wear and historical significance from the early 20th century. -R.E.
