Our Assessment: The Mitchell’s Mausers .22LR PPSH-41/22 is a faithful reproduction of the iconic Soviet PPSh-41 submachine gun, chambered in .22 Long Rifle for recreational shooting. Known for its use during World War II, the original PPSh-41 was a symbol of Soviet infantry firepower, prized for its high rate of fire and reliability. Mitchell’s Mausers has adapted this historic firearm into a semi-automatic .22LR variant, making it more accessible for modern enthusiasts while maintaining the distinctive look and feel of the original. One of the most appealing aspects of the Mitchell’s Mausers PPSH-41/22 is its authentic design. It replicates the classic features of the PPSh-41, including the iconic round drum magazine, the wooden stock, and the ventilated barrel shroud. While the original was chambered in 7.62x25mm Tokarev, this .22LR version allows for affordable, low-recoil shooting, making it ideal for plinking, target practice, and introducing new shooters to the historic weapon. The use of .22LR ammunition significantly reduces the cost of shooting compared to centerfire rounds, which makes the PPSH-41/22 a practical option for those who want the experience of shooting a historically significant firearm without the high expense. The semi-automatic action, combined with the smaller caliber, also means it is easy to handle, with minimal recoil, making it suitable for a wide range of shooters.

Overall, the Mitchell’s Mausers .22LR PPSH-41/22 offers the aesthetic and historical significance of the original PPSh-41 with the benefits of .22LR ammunition. Whether used for recreational shooting, historical reenactments, or as part of a collection, this rifle allows shooters to experience the iconic look and feel of the Soviet submachine gun in a practical, accessible format. -R.E.
