The left side of the dust cover is marked “14217”. The bolt carrier and bolt are marked “14217”. The top of the upper handguard metal is marked “14217”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded adjustable post and the rear sight is a “U” tangent notch marked from “1 – 8” and “D”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a three piece wood with a thumbhole, raised comb, vented lower forend, and vented rubber buttpad. The back of the receiver is slant cut. There is little to no wear. There are a few faint scratches and compression marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.75″ from the front of the trigger to the back buttpad. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is faint fouling in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9.5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light operational and handling wear. There are typical light scratches scattered about the metal consistent with Norinco Imports. There is light operational wear from the safety lever. The screwheads are sharp and the rivets are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Norinco MAK-90 Sporter is a Chinese-made AK-pattern semi-automatic rifle imported in the post-1989 sporting configuration, with this example being especially desirable for its milled receiver construction. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, the MAK-90 retained the rugged long-stroke gas piston action, tangent rear sight, adjustable front sight, and robust Chinese AK-pattern design while using thumbhole sporting furniture to meet import requirements of the period. This 1993-dated example is marked “MAK-90 SPORTER / CAL 7.62X39MM” and “MADE IN CHINA,” with matching “14217” markings observed on the dust cover, bolt carrier, bolt, and upper handguard metal.
This MAK-90 is in Excellent condition overall, retaining about 98% of its original blued finish with only light operational and handling wear, scattered light scratches, and light safety-lever wear. The three-piece wood furniture rates in Excellent condition, showing little to no wear with only a few faint scratches and compression marks, and the slant-cut rear receiver is noted. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and faint fouling in the grooves, rating 9.5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, the markings are clear, and no magazine is included.
