Markings: The top of the toggle is marked “S/42,” denoting Mauser’s production code as well as the part number “71”, along with “1938” on the chamber. The left side of the barrel extension is stamped with the serial number “9971.” The transfer bar is, retention pin, barrel lug are marked “71” The front of the frame under the barrel is marked “9971b” The side plate is marked “71”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a “V-notch” integral to the rear toggle link.
Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece, checkered wood. They exhibit moderate handling wear but retain their structural integrity, with the checkering still pronounced. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: This firearm comes with 1 magazine in Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The bore is dark, the rifling is worn. There is heavy fouling in the bore. In this writers opinion the bore rates 5/10
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 60% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light to moderate handling and operational wear, including thinning at high-contact points, minor scratches, and patina forming on exposed areas. The screw heads are unmarred and serviceable. The markings remain sharp and clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action does not function correctly. The firing pin does not drop when you pull the trigger. All other components function properly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
