The markings are sharp and fully legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: This Mauser K98k is an interesting and collectible example of a Russian capture rework, originally produced in 1940 by the Mauser-Werke factory in Oberndorf (Code “42”). Captured and refurbished post-war, this rifle was force-matched and refinished under Soviet control, a common fate for many K98ks used on the Eastern Front. Unlike many Russian-capture rifles, this example retains its original German Waffenamt markings, including intact eagles and spooky pinwheels, making it more desirable to collectors.

The rifle has since been expertly restored by James River Armory, further enhancing its condition while keeping its historical integrity. It features a semi-bright bore, strong rifling, and smooth bolt action, making it not only a collectible but also a functional shooter. The refinished stock and bluing showcase the quality restoration work.

For Mauser collectors, WWII historians, or those looking for a solid shooting example of the legendary K98k, this rifle presents an excellent opportunity. It represents an intriguing mix of original WWII German production, Soviet rework history, and modern restoration, making it a valuable piece for any collection.  Please see our High Quality photos and good luck on your bids.-C.M.
