Our Assessment: The Mauser K98 is one of the most iconic bolt-action rifles of the 20th century, widely used by the German military during World War II. This particular example, manufactured in 1944 at the Mauser-Werke Oberndorf factory, retains its historic character while showing signs of arsenal refinishing. The presence of Waffenamt markings further attests to its authenticity as a wartime production rifle.
The K98’s robust design and accuracy made it a favored infantry rifle, with its 8mm Mauser cartridge providing excellent range and stopping power. This rifle’s laminated stock, cupped buttplate, and tangent-leaf rear sight are standard features of late-war production models. The included bayonet and scabbard make this an even more desirable collector’s piece.
This rifle is a great addition for collectors of military surplus firearms, World War II historians, or enthusiasts looking for a well-preserved example of the Mauser K98. Whether displayed, added to a historical collection, or taken to the range, this rifle remains a significant and highly sought-after piece of history.
