Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition:  WE BELIEVE THAT THESE REVOLVERS ARE UNFIRED, OUTSIDE OF FACTORY TESTING!!!  The bores are bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion or fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: We believe that these revolvers are unfired outside of factory testing. These revolvers retain about 98% of their metal finish. The only finish wear appears to be from storage and old oil residue that has solidified.  Neither revolver shows a turn line through the finish.  The balance shows very minimal wear both handling and storage.  There are no carbon rings on the face of the cylinder and only a couple of minor smudge marks from storage can be seen. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, both of these revolvers rate in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: Due to the high condition of these revolvers, we elected not to operate the actions and risk damage to the finish. We did not fire these revolvers. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The revolver set comes in a gold felt-lined wood presentation case, plaque denoting it is Set #4 and cardboard protection sleeve.  The case is marked with a seal of the Chamizal Treaty with U.S. and Mexican flags, El Paso, Texas and Juarez Chih, Mexico with the Colt logo.

Our Assessment:  The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced and has been closely associated with the frontier history of the United States since its introduction in 1873. Known for its rugged single action design and chambering in .45 Colt, the revolver became a symbol of the American West and has remained a favorite platform for limited commemorative issues. Colt has produced numerous historical commemoratives over the decades, often pairing distinctive finishes, special markings, and presentation cases to honor important events in American history.

This matched set commemorates the Chamizal Treaty, a landmark diplomatic agreement between the United States and Mexico that resolved a century long border dispute along the Rio Grande near El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. The dispute originated in the mid nineteenth century when shifts in the river’s course altered the boundary line between the two nations. After decades of negotiation, the Chamizal Convention was signed in 1963 and formally implemented in 1964, redistributing several hundred acres of contested land and establishing a fixed concrete channel for the Rio Grande to prevent future changes to the border. The treaty is considered one of the most successful peaceful resolutions of a territorial dispute between the United States and Mexico and marked a significant moment in diplomatic cooperation between the two nations.

To commemorate this historic agreement, Colt produced a limited matched set consisting of a Single Action Army revolver in .45 Colt and a Frontier Scout revolver in .22 LR. Both revolvers feature special commemorative barrel markings referencing the 1867 Chamizal claim and the 1964 treaty resolution, along with blued finishes accented by gold plated cylinders, hammers, triggers, trigger guards, and backstraps. The set is further enhanced by Colt Pearl-Lite grips with gold Colt medallions and was issued in a fitted presentation case bearing the seal of the Chamizal Treaty. Production of these sets was extremely limited, with only 100 produced, and this example is set number 4, making it a particularly desirable early numbered set for collectors of Colt commemoratives.

We believe these revolvers remain unfired outside of factory testing and both retain about 98 percent of their original finish with only minor signs of long term storage. The bores are bright with strong rifling and no visible erosion, and neither revolver shows a cylinder turn line. The set includes its original gold felt lined presentation case with identification plaque and cardboard protective sleeve. Matched commemorative Colt sets produced in such small numbers are rarely encountered on the collector market, especially when preserved with their original case and accessories.
