Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARM CO NORTH HAVE CONN USA / MODEL 44 MICRO GROOVE BARREL / CAL .444 MARLIN” The top tang is marked “7086115”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a ramped post. The protective hood is missing. The rear sight is a flip up U notch with a white triangle. Mounted to the top of the frame is a Weaver scope. The reticle is a duplex crosshair. The sight picture is clear.

Stock Configuration & Condition: 2 piece walnut monte carlo stock, ventilated rubber buttpad,, smooth straight grip, smooth fore end, 2 barrel bands, 2 sling mounts, 1 in the bottom of the forend and 1 in the belly of the buttstock. The right side of the buttstock has a badge that says “MARLIN 1870 – 1970” The bottom of the butstock has a bullseye. The LOP is 13.75” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are light scratches and compression marks on the stock and fore end. There are no chips or cracks. The stock rates in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifle is sharp. There is light erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition:  This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are scratches on the receiver and barrel. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: When the Marlin Model 444 was introduced in 1965 with its .444 Marlin cartridge, it was the most powerful lever action rifle at the time. This Marlin features a badge on the right hand side commemorating the date 1970. This rifle comes mounted with a weaver and sling mounts.
