Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x scope with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light handling wear. Overall, the scope rates in Excellent condition. The scope is mounted on a one-piece Lever Scout scope base, and sits in 1″ Weaver rings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered walnut stock set, with a straight grip, straight comb, black rubber Kickeez buttpad, a capped and checkered forend, and sling rings front and rear. The stocks show light wear, with a few light scratches, dings, and compressions scattered throughout. The checkering is well defined, and the stock’s finish is intact. The stocks fit tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, with only a couple of minor dings and hairline scratches throughout the metal surfaces. The bluing is deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the cross-bolt and half-cock safeties. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 1895M in .450 Marlin was introduced at the turn of the millennium as a modern answer to heavy timber and dangerous game work, pairing Marlin’s proven 1895 action with the beltless magnum level performance of the .450 Marlin cartridge. Developed to duplicate stout .45-70 loads in a factory standardized format, the .450 Marlin offers serious stopping power in a compact, quick handling lever platform. The 18 1/2 inch ported barrel and solid top receiver reflect the rifle’s intended role as a hard hitting brush gun capable of fast follow up shots.

This 2000 production example retains approximately 98 percent of its original blued finish with only minor handling marks and a few light superficial impressions. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut stocks remain attractive with well defined checkering and the Marlin bullseye intact, and while the Kickeez recoil pad is a later addition, it complements the rifle’s powerful chambering. The Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x optic mounted on a Lever Scout base rounds out a practical field configuration. A strong JM stamped example of Marlin’s modern big bore lever gun, ready to represent the final era of North Haven production.
