Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / EST. 1870 MICRO GROOVED BARREL / ****MODEL 336– CAL. 35 REM.****”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked “JM”. The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-lined warning. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number “20167653”.
Barrel Length: 20” Round
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded brass beaded blade with a serrated rear face that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a semi-buckhorn u-notch leaf and an elevator piece. The rear sight is dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver has four drilled, tapped and holds a Leupold VX-Freedom.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with a forearm, capped pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and a black checkered Marlin buttplate. There are a couple small scratches, nicks and compression marks on the buttstock and forearm. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.35” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate shows some comparison marks on the edges near the heel. The stocks rate in about Very good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In the opinion of the writer the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are some light scratches. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever extends slightly past ninety degrees in the open position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 336 is a lever-action rifle and carbine made by Marlin Firearms. Since its introduction in 1948, it has been offered in a number of different calibers and barrel lengths, but is commonly chambered in .30-30 Winchester or .35 Remington, using a 20- or 24-inch barrel. This is a beautiful Marlin 336 manufactured in 1980. It is chambered in the ever popular .35 Rem.
