Our Assessment: Samuel Colt is well known for his influence on firearms, especially in America. Recognition for that influence is well earned, but only scratches the surface of the man. His use of interchangeable parts allowed him to pioneer assembly-line production. He was innovative in marketing, having a flair for showmanship. He was an early adopter of “product placement” as well as using celebrity endorsements, even commissioning art to showcase his firearms. He also worked with another famous Samuel, Morse, developing a water-proof cable which allowed telegraph lines to be run under rivers, lakes and even oceans.

What better way to celebrate the bicentennial of Sam Colt than one of the more famous firearms to ever bear his name, the Government Model, better known today as “The 1911”. We were not able to find a lot of information about this edition, but it was commissioned by Lew Horton and features gold trim and decorative engraving on a stainless steel Government Model. The slide bears Colt’s portrait, his signature, the venerable Rampant Colt as well as the more modern “Serpent” Colt logo. The pistol comes in its original box and is in Excellent condition, ready to add to your collection and display as a celebration of Sam Colt. Please see our photos and good luck!
