Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Colt made a Commander version of its 1911A1 pistol starting in 1950 with a lightweight alloy frame and a 4 1/4” barrel, but changed its name to Lightweight Commander in 1970 to distinguish it from the newly introduced all steel Combat Commander. The shorter barrel makes the Commander more suited to regular carry than the full-size Government model while using the same magazine and having the same grip for familiarity. This example is a Lew Horton exclusive Commander Plus Two-Tone with a blued slide, stainless frame and blue pearlite grips. The frame has an under-cut trigger guard and extended beavertail grip-safety. We weren’t able to find much information about this particular Lew Horton exclusive, with claims of as few as 107 made. In high condition and with its original box, it would make a great pistol to add to—or start!—a Colt collection. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
