The wood shows light scattered scratches, and scuff marks on the stock furniture from handling and storage. The patch box does not fully close. The LOP measures 13.5” and 12.5” from the faces of the triggers to the back of the butt plate. The stocks rate in about Very Good Plus overall condition.
Type of Finish: Browned
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is well defined. There is light erosion at the muzzle with discoloration. In this writer’s opinion and for the age, this bore rates a 8 out of 10.
Most antique firearms have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the use of black powder. When fired, black powder reacts corrosively. NRA Antique Firearm Conditions Standards are quite lenient for bores. In some cases, the NRA standards disregard the bore’s condition for collectors firearms.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The metal shows minor scratches from storage and handling. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A leather stall is put over the frizzen to protect it and is tied to the top of the cock with twine.
Our Assessment: This rifle was made by Larry Bryner who lives in Colombus, Ohio. The rifle is chambered in .32 caliber, and shows a very nice stock, many silver decorative motif inlays in the wood, a fast lock and nicely engraved trigger guard. The bore is very good and should be a very nice small game hunter or target shooter. To my knowledge, Larry Bryner still makes rifles but why wait on a list to get one of those when this is ready for its new owner now. Please see our photos and good luck!
