Our Assessment: Ithaca’s Mag-10 stands as one of the most formidable American-made semi-automatic shotguns of the late 20th century, purpose-built for waterfowlers demanding maximum payload and reliability in harsh conditions. Introduced in the 1970s and utilizing a gas-operated system derived from the earlier Remington-designed platform, the Mag-10 was engineered to tame the substantial recoil of the 3 1/2″ 10 gauge shell while delivering consistent cycling. At a time when magnum waterfowling was evolving rapidly, the Mag-10 earned a reputation as a hard-hitting, no-nonsense field gun, particularly favored in goose blinds and open marshes where range and pattern density were paramount.
This example presents with a desirable 32″ vent-rib barrel and fixed Full choke, a classic configuration for long-range waterfowl work. The parkerized finish remains strong, with honest handling wear that aligns with its intended use, while the walnut stocks retain solid structural integrity and an appealing figure beneath light field marks. The bore remains bright with minimal fouling and light wear, supporting its continued utility. Altogether, this is a well-preserved example of Ithaca’s flagship magnum autoloader, offering both historical interest and practical capability in a platform synonymous with American waterfowling tradition.
