Our Assessment: The Intratec TEC-DC9, also known as the TEC-9, is a semi-automatic handgun that was produced by Intratec, a firearms company based in Miami, Florida. The TEC-DC9 was introduced to the market in 1990 as a nameshift/rebranding due to controversy that was surrounding the TEC-9 which quickly gained notoriety for its unique appearance and high-capacity magazine.
One of the notable aspects of the TEC-DC9 is its distinctive appearance, with its large, elongated barrel shroud and extended magazine. The design was inspired by the Carl Gustav M/45, a Swedish submachine gun.
Unfortunately, the TEC-DC9 gained notoriety for its association with criminal activity and was involved in several high-profile shootings in the United States. Due to its involvement in crime and its perceived threat to public safety, the TEC-DC9 was included in the list of firearms banned under the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban.
The controversy surrounding the TEC-DC9 led to its production being discontinued, and it is no longer manufactured. However, its impact on the firearms industry and its place in popular culture have made it a significant part of firearms history. Please see our photos and good luck!
