The checkering is mostly well defined, with a few of the compression marks and dings landing in the checkering on the wrist and forend. The stock’s finish is intact, and the wood grain is attractive. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with light surface-level scratches scattered throughout the metal surfaces. There is light thinning of the finish at the muzzle, and light operational marks on the bolt and friction surfaces of the action. Otherwise, the bluing is deep, dark, and intact. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are tooled, but retain serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Interarms Mark X Whitworth Express Rifle is a classic Mauser-pattern sporting rifle, combining Zastava manufacture, Whitworth branding, and Interarms importation into a traditional dangerous-game style hunting rifle. This 1975 C&R-eligible example is chambered in .375 H&H Magnum, one of the world’s great big-game cartridges, long respected for its penetration, reliability, and use on large and dangerous game. This rifle features a 24″ barrel, express-style rear sight with additional 200- and 300-yard folding leaves, beaded front sight, checkered walnut stock with ebony forend tip and shadowline cheekpiece, barrel-band sling stud, and a Leupold M8 Compact 4x scope mounted in hinged Weaver rings that allow the optic to swing aside for use of the iron sights. The .375 H&H chambering, Express Rifle configuration, classic walnut-and-blue presentation, and dual optic/iron-sight setup should appeal to hunters, collectors, and enthusiasts looking for a traditional safari-style rifle with practical field capability.
