Designed by Eugene Reising and produced by Harrington & Richardson (H&R) during World War II, the Model 65 was intended as a military trainer to mimic the handling and weight of the M1 Garand service rifle. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle (.22LR), the Reising Model 65 was used to train troops in marksmanship without the cost and recoil of full-power service ammunition. Its historical context and unique design elements make it a cherished piece among collectors, military historians, and vintage firearm enthusiasts. The Reising Model 65 features a heavy barrel and solid steel construction, providing a stable platform for accurate shooting. Its adjustable aperture sights mirror those of the M1 Garand, allowing trainees to practice with a similar sight picture and sight adjustment process. The rifle’s full-sized walnut stock and steel components lend it a classic, military appearance, and its semi-automatic blowback action is both reliable and smooth. Overall, the H&R Reising Model 65 represents a unique blend of historical significance and functional design. Its role as a training rifle for the U.S. military during World War II adds to its appeal, making it a sought-after piece for those interested in military history and vintage firearms.
