Markings:  The left side of the slide is marked, “HK VP40 TACTICAL .40 S&W”.  The left side of the frame is marked, “Heckler & Koch GmbH / Made in Germany”.  The Chamber is marked, “HK .40 S&W / 222-025622  CIPN”. The bottom of the trigger guard is marked, “WARNING REFER TO OPERATOR’S MANUAL”.  Under the 1913 rail in a metal inlay marked, “HKI-Columbus GA 222-025622”. The right side of the slide “222-025622 CIPN BG DE”. 

Barrel Length: 4.7” 

Sights / Optics: The sights are a three dot glow in the dark sighting system. The front sight is a glow in the dark dot dovetailed to the slide. The rear sight is a two glow in the dark dot sight with a rectangular notch dovetailed to the slide.   

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are synthetic with interchangeable back strap and flanks. The frame has an ambi slide catch, magazine release, and a picatinny rail. The frame / grips show minor handling wear with no notable marks or marrs. Overall the grips / frame are in about Excellent condition.   

Magazine Quantity & Condition: This pistol includes three 10rd .40 S&W magazines one in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the polygonal rifling is well defined. There is no visible erosion in the bore. The feed ramp is smooth and shiny. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition:  This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. The balance of the finish shows little to no operational wear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.  

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. Has trigger safety, cocked striker indicator, and loaded chamber indicator.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol includes a Factory hard-sided case with foam, two extra backstraps, two extra sets of flanks, loading tool, owner’s manual, and a total of 3 magazines.

Our Assessment:  When Heckler & Koch introduced the VP series in 2014, it marked a return to striker-fired pistols for the company after decades of DA/SA hammer-fired designs like the USP and P30. The VP40, chambered in .40 S&W, was designed to provide a duty-grade striker-fired option with the robust construction, reliability, and ergonomics HK is known for. Unlike many polymer-frame pistols of its time, the VP40 brought with it a refined trigger system with a light, crisp break and short reset, helping it stand apart in a market crowded with striker-fired handguns.

The pistol also features HK’s hallmark ambidextrous controls, including dual slide releases and the paddle-style magazine release, making it adaptable to any shooter. The glow in the dark night sights provide a clear sight picture in low-light defensive scenarios. This particular example is in Excellent condition, with a pristine bore, sharp rifling, and only faint signs of prior handling.
