The stock and sight are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “HRA-W”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of two and “WC E” (Wilco Electric Co.).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked with a “P” The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nosecaps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged metal door for storage in the buttstock. The wood shows infrequent dings, scratches, and scrapes on the stock. There is one long scratch on the left side of the stock by the receiver. There is some sling wear in the belly and forend. There is a scrape on the top front handguard on the left side. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The muzzle has some minor discoloration. The rifling is sharp. The bore has an M.E. of 1.5. The throat has a T.E. of 3.

Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 91% of its finish. The metal shows light small scratches on the barrel. There is operational wear on the barrel from the op-rod and some light wear forward of the handguard. The gas cylinder shows some loss of finish. There is subtle erosion on the receiver leg and on the bottom of the follower. The edges of the trigger guard show light thinning. The action shows operational wear. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a green cloth sling. The metal for the sling shows discoloration and oxidation.

Our Assessment: This Harrington & Richardson Arms M1 Garand was made back between 1954-1956. It uses mainly Harrington & Richardson parts so it has lots of little “HRA” markings on the metal. However, the parts that don’t fully match are made for Harrington & Richardson. This is a highly collectible rifle that is ideal for a Garand collection. Good Luck!
