Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “SAKO / Cal. .22-250″, along with a proof mark. The left side of the barrel is marked FORESTER MADE IN FINLAND”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, dovetailed to a checkered ramped base, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable aperture peep sight that mounts to the receiver’s dovetail. The rear peep sight is not currently installed, but is included with the rifle.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, serrated plastic Sako buttplate, a wide checkered forend, and sling rings front and rear. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock shows only the most minor of superficial imperfections from being stored in its original box. The gloss finish is intact, the checkering is well defined, and the wood grain is attractive. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor freckling of corrosion on the bolt. Otherwise, the bluing on the rest of the rifle is deep, dark, and intact. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are lightly tooled, but retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, however, the safety does not switch on to “safe”. We recommend a qualified gunsmith inspect the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, owner’s manual/paperwork, and the rear peep sight as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Sako L579 Forester is a well-regarded Finnish sporting rifle built on Sako’s medium-length action, known for its smooth operation, robust construction, and excellent accuracy potential. This heavy-barreled .22-250 Remington configuration is especially well suited for varmint hunting and precision shooting, combining a wide checkered forend, Monte Carlo walnut stock, receiver dovetails, and a detachable aperture sight with the refined fit and finish associated with classic Sako production.
This rifle is in Fine to Excellent condition overall, retaining about 98% of its original blue finish with deep, intact bluing and only minor corrosion freckling on the bolt. The checkered walnut stock remains in Excellent condition with attractive grain, a strong gloss finish, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, and the bolt action functions correctly. The safety does not engage and should be inspected by a qualified gunsmith before use. Its serial number matching factory box, owner’s manual and paperwork, and included receiver-mounted aperture sight add considerable completeness and collector appeal.
