Our Assessment: The FN SCAR 16S is a modern semi-automatic 5.56x45mm rifle based on FN’s well-known SCAR platform, using a short-stroke gas piston system and a 16.25” barrel in the commercial 16S configuration. FN’s current SCAR 16S specifications list the rifle as a 5.56x45mm, 16.25” short-stroke gas-piston rifle, and this listed example has a legacy-style reciprocating charging handle configuration rather than the newer NRCH variant. This rifle is equipped with flip-up iron sights, a long top Picatinny rail, side receiver rail, folding adjustable stock with adjustable cheek rest, Magpul A2-style pistol grip, bullet-button magazine release, upgraded Geissele trigger, and black finish.
This SCAR 16S is in Very Good Plus condition overall, retaining about 99% of its metal finish with light handling wear, a few light scratches, safety/rail wear, two Sharpie witness marks on the left-side Picatinny rail, and verdigris present on the muzzle device. The furniture rates in Fine condition, showing light handling wear, a few light scratches, and rail scratches. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, smooth feed ramps, and rates 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, the markings are clear, and the pins are unmarred. This rifle comes with its serialized box, three 30-round magazines, installed Geissele trigger, uninstalled factory trigger, cable lock with key, and paperwork, making it a well-equipped SCAR 16S package for FN collectors and shooters looking for a premium piston-driven 5.56 rifle.
