Our Assessment: The Colt Government Model MKIV Series 70 represents a pinnacle of design in the evolution of the M1911, one of the most iconic and enduring firearms in American history. Crafted with precision and care, the Series 70 introduces refinements over its predecessors that enhance performance without compromising the classic feel and reliability that have made the Colt M1911 a standard-bearer for over a century.
This particular Series 70 Bob Chow variant embodies the perfect blend of historical significance and modern manufacturing prowess. Bob Chow was an Olympic shooter who competed in the 25 m pistol in the 1948 Summer Olympics placing 13th overall. Bob Chow achieved 37 world pistol records in his life. Bob Chow was the guy to go to for a target pistol build from the early 1950s to the late 1980s. His pistols are known for their smooth cycling and accuracy. Bob Chow also worked with movie extras and some well known actors, teaching them how to shoot, including John Wayne and Roy Rodgers.
Its introduction marked a return to a simpler, more reliable firing mechanism, deviating from the added complexity of the Series 80’s firing pin safety. This change preserves the crisp, clean trigger pull that competitive shooters and firearms aficionados deeply appreciate, making it a favorite for both target shooting and personal defense. The .45 ACP cartridge, known for its stopping power, paired with the Series 70’s accuracy and reliability, results in a firearm that is as practical on the range as it is collectible. The Colt Government Model MKIV Series 70 in stands not just as a testament to the enduring legacy of the M1911 design but also as a beacon of American craftsmanship and engineering excellence, making it a coveted piece for collectors, enthusiasts, and patriots alike.
