Our Assessment: The FN Browning Model 1910, also known as the New Model/ Browning 1955, is a semi-automatic pistol that was developed by the Belgian firearms manufacturer Fabrique Nationale (FN) Herstal. Designed by the legendary John Browning, this pistol was the predecessor of his later Model 1922, which became one of the most widely used military and police sidearms in Europe during the mid-20th century.
This design is steeped with history and still holds affects on our life today as this little pistol, an FN M1910, serial number 19074, chambered in . 380 ACP was the handgun used by Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914, the act that precipitated the First World War.
Collectors today value the Model 1955 for its historical significance and connection to John Browning’s legacy. It represents an important chapter in the development of semi-automatic pistols and showcases the enduring influence of Browning’s designs on 20th-century firearms. The Model 1910/55 stands as a testament to the balance of simplicity and effectiveness that characterized Browning’s approach to firearm design.
